Priorities

Yolo County residents deserve to feel safe, knowing our police, sheriff’s deputies, and firefighters are always there when needed. These dedicated men and women put their lives on the line every day for our safety—they never leave us behind in a crisis, and we must stand by them. In these challenging budget times, public safety must remain a top priority.

Supporting Law Enforcement & Strengthening Our Justice System

I support our law enforcement personnel and first responders and will work to make sure they have the resources and training necessary to respond effectively to emergencies. I also advocate for ongoing training in de-escalation, mental health response, and community engagement to strengthen relationships within our communities.

I am committed to a justice system focused on accountability, collaboration, rehabilitation, and prevention. We must address the root causes of crime, such as poverty, lack of education, and mental health issues, and provide people with the tools they need to break free from cycles of crime and addiction. Even as we work to help people break these cycles, we must also hold those who break the law accountable.

I support Proposition 36, which prioritizes treatment over incarceration for nonviolent offenders with mental illness or addiction. Programs like Mental Health Court and the Restorative Justice Partnership (RJP) offer alternatives to traditional court proceedings, focusing on healing and reducing recidivism.

While rehabilitation is key, victims’ rights remain a priority, and those harmed by criminal behavior deserve support and a voice in the justice process.

Support for Rural Fire Districts

Rural fire districts are vital to the safety of Yolo County’s unincorporated areas. These districts, often composed mostly of volunteers, are the heart of their communities. They not only protect us, but they also serve as the glue that binds these communities together.

Although these districts are mostly independent and secure their own funding, they still face significant challenges. I am firmly committed to supporting them and helping ensure their long-term sustainability.
